No Snow...

The weather men were calling for snow. Around here that is a MAJOR big deal. I wore my "SNOW SUIT" to school--it is a really cute pant suit that has glittery snow flakes on it. At the end of the day, the kids and I did the snow dance. Basically, I put on some music and we boogied down. I told them the more they boogied, the more it would snow. We left school REAL excited for the upcoming snow event. The county even called for a 2 hour delay the night before which is unheard of. We all settled in for the night waiting for the snow. Much to our dismay--nothing happened! We did get to go to school 2 hours later than usual and that was good--but not ONE flake of snow was to be seen. One of my petite, quiet little Mexican girls walked into the classroom with the meanest scowl on her face, put her hands on her hips and said "Why it not snow?" I immediately burst out laughing because she was mad as a hornet about it. Then she says "Somebody did not dance right!" That made me laugh even harder. However, my little girl did not find this funny at all. I had to explain to her that sometimes the weather men make mistakes and that's just how it is. This will go down in history as one of those very funny but precious moments in my teaching life!

Teacher Humor!!!!!!

Always Check Your Child's Homework

(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)

Dear Mrs. Jones,

I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.
I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot.
From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith

Field Trip to the Farm

We went to the farm today and had a wonderful time. The kids got to see real live farm animals, ride on a tractor pulled wagon, eat homemade ice cream and take home a pumpkin. They had a great time. As you can see, on the bus ride home many kids fell asleep. We discovered that being on a farm is HARD work!

FINALLY...

The past couple of weeks have been terrible! I don't know if it was all the sickness, my "new" assistant, full moon, me or what but my class was not a happy place to be. Yesterday, we had the best day EVER!!!!! I think the curse is finally broken LOL Today was good, too. We have been talking a lot about germs, sickness, covering our sneezes and so forth. Then the news came that we had to submit a science project. I decided to do the cool project about germs, hand washing and such. We put this "special" lotion on our hands to simulate germs. We looked at our hands under a black light. GROSS! The kids freaked out but it was so cool. We then washed our hands and took another look under the light. Most kids thought that they'd washed their hands really good but the germs still showed up under the black light. It really got the message across that hand washing is more than just a quick rinse.

GRRRRRRRRRRR Monday blahs...

I have a few words that describe today: tattling, whining, fussing, complaining! Ms. Lee called in sick again and many of the kids are still out sick. I sent one child home today with a fever 0f 103. The ones that were left at school were in a terrible mood. I have never seen them like this. I personally think a few of them are coming down with the flu and just don't feel good. I hope tomorrow is better. I really don't think Ms. Lee will be back tomorrow and I am getting pretty aggravated having to be pulled in 100 different directions. BOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!

All By Myself...

Today was my first day of the year all by myself. Ms. Lee called in sick and I had to go it alone! Lucky for me, I had 6 kids out for one reason or another! We actually had a very good day.

Just another day...

Today was uneventful. We got outside before the rain came. YEAH! The kids were restless and inattentive this morning. I hate that I have to make them sit through structured "Literacy Block". They want to be up playing and doing "important" things with their time. One of my kids has the flu I think. She has been out for 3 days. Lots of coughing, sneezing and sniffing going on in the class. Ms. Lee came in today feeling under the weather. She made it 2 days with us before falling prey to their germs! Hopefully, we can make it through the flu season w/o too much sickness.
